Scottish comedian Janey Godley, known for her bold humor and viral moments, has passed away at the age of 63 after battling ovarian cancer, her daughter Ashley Storrie confirmed.
Godley first gained international attention in 2016 when she held a sign outside Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf resort in Scotland that read, “Trump is a c---,” shortly before his election. She revisited the stunt in October, posting a photo of herself bedridden but smiling, holding a T-shirt that declared, “Trump is still a c---.”
Her comedic reach extended beyond political satire. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Godley went viral for her dubbed videos of Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s daily briefings, blending humor with social commentary.
In the BBC documentary *Janey*, Godley spoke candidly about her terminal illness. Reflecting on death, she said, “I don’t know how I’ll feel… You don’t know what dying is. The great thing is nobody knows what’s there. It’s not like you can check a Tripadvisor review because nobody’s come back to tell us. So that’ll be the beginning.”
Her daughter Ashley expressed gratitude for the support of Godley’s “found family” and the care she received at the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Ashley said, “She went peacefully. I want to say a big thank you to the hospice staff and to everyone who supported her and us during these last difficult days.”
